SYNDICAT MIXTE DES ESPACES LITTORAUX DE LA MANCHE - SYMEL www.symel.fr

Gatteville is a location of special interest because it provides a home for birds called "plovers" during their reproduction period. Plovers are a declining specie which is protected throughout Europe. The SYMEL organisation is closely monitoring the evolution of the plover population in Normandy and it was noticed that the birds have been nesting next to the hatchery for many years. SATMAR is aware of these exceptional environmental conditions and work is organised in order not to disturb the nesting.

ENVIRONMENT AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT AGENCY - ADEME www.ademe.fr

As part of its corporate environmental policy, SATMAR has installed a second water / water heat pump in its Leucate operation (the operation based in Gatteville is also using such a device). This project has been achieved thanks to close cooperation with the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME). The heat pumps are designed to achieve constant water temperatures in the breeding tanks. Related annual energy production of one heat pump is 120.250 KWh to save the equivalent of 40 metric tons of CO2.
